My Zero Waste Shower Routine with Simple Products

by Gabrielle Loomis July 25, 2022
written by Gabrielle Loomis

Zero waste style travel is back. The pandemic-weary population is emerging from lockdowns with the goal of relaxing and reviving senses dulled by one zoom meeting too many. Whether it is finally taking the postponed honeymoon, or just getting some time away from home, travellers seeking a uniquely restorative experience can find it at Sunset at the Palms, a boutique Jamaican resort with the tagline, “Sensory Magic”.

Don’t wait. The purpose of our lives is to be happy!

Upon arrival, your senses will be rewarded with the pleasant scent of lemongrass oil used to clean the natural wood found throughout the room, creating a relaxing atmosphere within the space.

Sunset at the Palms offers an indulgent, adults-only experience. The resort has always featured its own version of “social distancing,” with just 85 rooms and 25 acres of beachfront and gardens for maximum privacy.

You have the choice of rooms or suites, in one of the resorts “treehouses,” an individual Asian-inspired bungalow featuring private balconies located within lush gardens for privacy, but just steps from the beach, with full amenities, including wi-fi, king-size beds, and luxurious bathrooms.

The Best Restaurants In The Sunset

Sunset at the Palms tantalizes the taste buds with dining options including buffets, a la carte restaurants, room service, and private beach bar and grill amenities. The resort showcases the tastes of the island with Caribbean fusion cuisine, while providing a range of dining options to suit all tastes.

Enjoy the menu with many selections:

  • Buttermilk Pancakes – Available with Strawberry, Cherry, Blueberry, or Apple topping.
  • Short Stack – An order of two large, fluffy pancakes, available with fruit, nuts, or chocolate topping.
  • Malted Waffle – A large Belgian waffle made with malted batter.
  • French Toast – Three slices of Texas toast dipped in a creamy batter.

A weekly cocktail party adds spice to the experience. Relaxing. At the resort’s Ginger Lily Spa, “our mission is to help you relax,” says Kamarla Simms, general manager. Curate your experience from a menu of wraps, scrubs, massages, and facial treatments designed to help you unwind and rejuvenate. A full-service beauty salon is available, along with manicure and pedicure services.

Not how long, but how well you have lived is the main thing.

When you are ready to indulge your sense of excitement, check out the range of water- sports opportunities at the resort’s on-site water-sports center. Want to leave your stress on the water? The resort has kayaks, paddleboards, or the low-key pedal boats. Snorkeling equipment is available as well, so you can experience the ever-changing undersea environment.

Not only do visitors to a bed and breakfast get a unique perspective on the place they are visiting, they have options for special packages not available in other hotel settings. Bed and breakfasts can partner easily with local businesses for a smoothly organized and highly personalized vacation experience. The Fife and Drum Inn offers options such as the Historic Triangle Package that includes three nights at the Inn, breakfasts, and admissions to historic Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown. Bed and breakfasts also lend themselves to romance.

Life is not a problem to be solved, but a reality to be experienced

Helpful hosts can design guest packages built around proposals, anniversaries, or just a special getaway. Visit fifeanddruminn.com for more details about how a bed and breakfast makes for a memorable travel experience.

Part of the charm of a bed and breakfast is the uniqueness; art, décor, and food are integrated to create a complete experience. For example, the Fife and Drum retains the colonial feel of the area in all its guest rooms. Special features include antique furnishings, elegant four poster beds in some guest rooms, as well folk art and artifacts from the restoration period of the historic area available for guests to enjoy.

Many bed and breakfasts are historic properties, often located in the center of scenic areas. The Fife and Drum Inn has been part of Sharon’s family for generations. The building was constructed in 1933 by her grandfather as a combination of stores with apartments above, and is a short walk to the sights and sounds of Colonial Williamsburg, including the holiday Grand Illumination fireworks display.

Travellers seeking a personal touch and insider stories would do well to consider staying at a local bed and breakfast (B&B).B&Bs “are more intimate, with much more personal attention.

“Sunset at the Palms invites travel enthusiasts to experience the healing warmth of the ever-present sunshine” says Ian Kerr, managing director. The white-sand beaches and tropical foliage in the heart of Negril is designed to provide a truly serene, intimate, and restorative getaway.

Favorite chewing toys for teething babies

by Gabrielle Loomis January 18, 2022
written by Gabrielle Loomis

I wrote this post with my favorite chewing toys for teething babies because there are so many chewing toys to choose from that it’s hard to decide which one to buy. With my 3rd baby in the teething phase, I noticed that some teethers he likes more than others.
I chose these teethers for the following reasons: Easy to hold (number 1 reason), easy to chew (my son enjoys chewing these), and because they are made of soft silicone.
Let me know if your child has tried any of these before!

You can shop these teething toys at my liketoknow.it page

Love,

Halloween Shopping for the Whole Family at Goodwill

by Gabrielle Loomis October 26, 2021
written by Gabrielle Loomis

Halloween shopping for my family is fun, but it can get spendy quickly. Enter Goodwill! We enjoy wearing different costumes every year and love to decorate our house. A shopping trip to Goodwill means we can get creative with our costumes and stock up on decor while keeping our shopping spree budget-friendly.

On my recent trip to my local Goodwill Store earlier this month, I found a wide variety of costumes, accessories, and décor for my whole family.

Planning a Halloween-themed party? Goodwill is the perfect place to shop! I’m not sure if this applies to other Goodwill locations, but at my local Goodwill, I always find brand-new products. When I was shopping with my husband Alex, we found Halloween tablecloths, fake spiders, garland, pumpkins, and other festive knick-knacks. I can’t wait to create a spooky-looking table!

My Halloween decor collection is growing thanks to Goodwill. A few years ago, I had very little decor, but now, I have a large bin with all sorts of items that I use to create a new look and feel each year!

Excited to get in the Halloween spirit? Stop by your local Goodwill Store & Donation Center today!

How to shop on a budget for back-to-school items

by Gabrielle Loomis September 2, 2021
written by Gabrielle Loomis

I can hardly believe that summer is ending, and schools have already started in some states. My kids are excited to start school. They are looking forward to seeing their friends, making new ones and meeting their new teachers.

When it comes to shopping for back-to-school supplies and new clothes for the kids to wear at school, it can get expensive, especially if you have more than one child. For this reason, I’m here today to talk about how you can shop on a budget for the next school year.
First, take inventory of what you already have and cross that off the list. You may have school supplies that your kids lightly used that can certainly be used again. Now that you have a clear vision of what you still need head to your local Goodwill to look for the remaining items. Did you know that before any major Holiday, Goodwill employees put out on the shelves what you might be shopping for? That goes for back-to-school as well.
You will be surprised by how many school supplies you can find at Goodwill. I recently went there and found notebooks, crayons, backpacks, clipboards, and more. Not only that, but I also found some brand-new-looking clothes for Rapha and Alex to wear to school. If you happen to go to a Goodwill store and don’t find anything, ask a manager if the store is getting more school supplies soon. The manager will be the best person to ask.
You may not find everything in your supply list at Goodwill, but at least you can save a few dollars before finishing your shopping at the big stores.

I hope this will be a fantastic school year for all the kids and that they’ll get to enjoy what they missed last year with Covid.

Xoxo, Gabrielle

You Only Need to Pack These Things in your Hospital Bag

by Gabrielle Loomis July 27, 2021
written by Gabrielle Loomis

You are close to your due date, and it’s time to pack your maternity bag. But what do you really need to bring? This is my third pregnancy, so I’ve learned from the past two that you don’t need much. Other blogs and articles will tell you to bring Roku sticks, books, etc., but the reality is that you won’t have time for any of that.

You only need to pack these things to the hospital on the day of labor and delivery:

  1. Car seat
  2. Health Insurance
  3. ID

In your hospital bag:

  1. Clothes for your husband/partner. 2-3 t-shirts, a pair of shorts and sweat pants, a sweater or sweatshirt, underwear & socks. Pillow is optional.
  2. For mom: light robe for walking with the baby in the hallway, a pair of comfortable sleepers, loose and comfortable going home clothes, postpartum undies, nursing bra, nipple pads, and easy-to-nurse PJs. In my past experience, I brought PJs to the hospital, but I ended up wearing the hospital gown the whole time.
  3. For baby: a swaddle, two newborn outfits, tiny socks, and a hat.
  4. Toiletries for mom and partner: shampoo, lotion, bar soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, hairbrush, and only a few essential makeup products.
  5. You can bring an Instax instant camera for fun pictures if you have room. Don’t forget phone chargers and any other chargers you may need.

Things the hospital will have available in the room for you to Use and take home:

  1. New Born Diapers
  2. Samples of nipple cream
  3. Newborn swaddle
  4. Large pads for mom

I tried to make this list as simple as possible to help you prepare for the delivery day!

Watch my REELS video on IG to see me packing for the hospital!

Xo, Gabrielle

Fun in the Sun: how to prepare for your next beach/pool day on a budget.

by Gabrielle Loomis July 21, 2021
written by Gabrielle Loomis

Summer is here, and there’s nothing more our family enjoys than going to the beach or spending the day by the pool. Who else can relate to that?

In today’s post, I want to share how you can prepare for your next beach/pool day in a budget-friendly manner.

If you have children, you know how life gets expensive. As children get older, shopping for secondhand clothes and accessories can save you hundreds of dollars. When looking for swimming trunks for my boys (which is a popular summer item), I like to go early to Goodwill to find the most variety of products. I went to Goodwill this particular day and found these adorable swimming trunks for my almost-four-year-old son. When I got home and showed him that the swimming trunks had sharks, he immediately wanted to put on and jump in the pool. Since he is likely to wear it for 1 season, he will be bigger next Summer, so why not spend $2,99 vs. $10 plus dollars on a new pair?

With Summer being my favorite season, I like to shop for 2 to 3 new swimsuits every year. Oh, and that also includes hats and coverups. Besides swimsuits, my most worn item in the Summer is beach sarongs. Growing up in Brazil, that is a must-have beach item. When looking at the dress’s racks, I was delighted to find this beautiful sarong for only $2,99. The beauty of sarongs is that you can wear them multiple ways over your suit; you can use them to lay on the beach, use them as a nursing cover, or even wrap yourself if you feel a little chili. If you don’t own one, please go to Goodwill and try to find one for yourself. Trust me that you will carry it every time you go to the beach or the pool.

Along with the sarong, I found a couple of adorable dresses, including this basic H&M dress that you can wear as a beach coverup or during the day to walk around town and grab an ice cream. Another gem I found was this beautiful maxi dress from Vineyard Vines. I picked it up, and it was in excellent condition. The best part, I only paid about $6,99. I also found this summer bag that goes well with nearly all my summer dresses. How cute is this look for a date night on a patio?

Now let’s talk about women’s swimsuits. I know people can get skeptical about buying secondhand suits; however, you will wash anything you buy anyways, just like all clothes you already own. If you want to own multiple swimsuits, this is the way to go. Plus, it will look like you have a new one to wear throughout the whole Summer.

Other Summer items you can search for at Goodwill are beach toys, towels, sandals, hats. Don’t be discouraged if you don’t see what you are looking for right away. The beauty of Goodwill is that you never know what you are going to find, and some days it can be a hit or miss.

What am I going to find next? Stay up to date on my Instagram, so you don’t miss the announcement of my next Goodwill post!

Maternity Outfits for You to Copy Now

by Gabrielle Loomis May 16, 2021
written by Gabrielle Loomis

I don’t remember 7-5 years ago finding the many beautiful maternity clothes I see right now. Between high to budget-friendly brands, you can pretty much find anything for anyone! If I’m honest, I don’t always feel pretty during pregnancy (I’m sure many of you can relate to that). But, what always has helped me through that was a positive attitude, thinking about the tiny human growing inside of me, and wearing clothes that make me feel good about myself.

These two maternity jumpsuits from Hatch Gal make me feel comfortable, confident, and stylish during pregnancy!

This gorgeous jumpsuit comes is the colors black and sage. The straps are adjustable and the neckline has subtle ruffles adding a fun detail to this jumpsuit.

This jumpsuit features a tie at the waist that you can wrap as many times as you’d like. Made with 100% gauzy cotton, this jumper will keep it cool when the weather is hot. Colors available: Blue pinstripe and Iris Gingham.
